Just ten minutes from the Hochegg is the Zirbenwald climbing area. This climbing area offers 21 routes in difficulty levels 3 to 8 - perfect for beginners or families who want to give climbing a try in Ötztal. Also close by is the Zirbenwald via ferrata. This requires some experience: it includes two difficult level C sections, a 100-metre change in altitude, and is 400 metres long. Looking for something more demanding? In addition to offering fantastic views of the surrounding glacier, the difficult Schwärzenkamm via ferrata is 700 metres long, offers a 350-metre change in altitude, and takes around 3 hours - challenging enough even for advanced climbers.
